My Social Media Actions Aren't Being Registered in a Competition

If you've completed a competition task — such as following a brand on Instagram or watching a YouTube video — but the entry hasn't been registered, there are a few common reasons this can happen and some steps you can take to resolve it.

Why Might an Action Not Register?

  • Account not connected: Some social actions require you to connect your Instagram or YouTube account to the competition entry form. If your account isn't linked, the platform may not be able to verify the action.
  • Action completed before entering: If you followed the account or watched the video before opening the competition entry page, the system may not have been able to detect it. Try unfollowing and re-following, or rewatching the video while the entry form is open.
  • Browser or app permissions: Pop-up blockers, browser extensions, or strict privacy settings can sometimes interfere with social verification steps.
  • Delay in verification: Occasionally there can be a short delay before a completed action is confirmed. Wait a few minutes and then refresh the competition page.
  • Already following: Some Instagram follow checks only detect a new follow action. If you were already following the account, the system may not register it. Try unfollowing and then re-following the account.

What to Do

  1. Refresh the competition entry page and check whether the task has updated to show as completed.
  2. Disconnect and reconnect any linked social accounts within the entry form, if that option is available.
  3. Try completing the action again (e.g. unfollow and re-follow on Instagram, or rewatch the YouTube video) while the competition page is open in your browser.
  4. Switch to a different browser or disable any ad-blocking or privacy extensions, then try again.
  5. Clear your browser cache and cookies, reload the page, and reattempt the action.

  • The URL of the competition page
  • The specific task that isn't registering (e.g. Instagram follow, YouTube watch)

  • Your entry email address or name

This information will allow the organiser to investigate and manually verify your entry if needed.
