Blacktail Studio is a woodworking YouTube channel known for large epoxy-and-slab tables. In May 2024 it ran "My Biggest Giveaway Ever": first prize was the Dragon's Breath Table, the piece built on camera in the channel's latest video, and five runners-up each received a handmade Damascus Denim epoxy table top. Everyone who entered got an instant download of the channel's Epoxy Table Guidebook, normally sold for $14.99.
The campaign ran from May 22 to June 14, 2024 and closed with 100K+ confirmed entries. It is the largest of the twelve Blacktail Studio giveaways run on Blitz Rocket between 2021 and 2025, which together have produced 440K+ confirmed entries.
Campaign Strategy
The prize is the video. Viewers had just watched a salvaged slab become the Dragon's Breath Table over a full build, so by the time the giveaway link appeared they already wanted this specific object, not a generic one. That is a prize no sponsor could supply and no competitor could copy, and it costs the channel a table it was going to build anyway.
Two supporting decisions widen the funnel. Five runner-up table tops mean six winners instead of one, and the free guidebook for every entrant means nobody leaves empty-handed. The guidebook is also the channel's own paid product, so the giveaway doubles as a sampling campaign: every one of the 100K+ entrants now has a Blacktail Studio product on their device.
The entry itself is the low-friction Blitz Rocket flow: enter with an email, collect points, win. With this many entrants the email list is the durable asset, so the campaign is best read as an email list growth play that also delivers the channel's paid guide as a lead magnet.
- Hero prize built on camera in the channel's most recent video
- Six prize tiers: one table, five table tops
- Instant reward for entering: a $14.99 guidebook, delivered as a download
- Worldwide shipping, stated up front, so international viewers enter
- Roughly three-week window that matches the video's discovery curve
Viral Mechanics & Growth Engine
A creator giveaway has a distribution engine most brands lack: the video itself. Every view of the build is a pitch for the prize, and the giveaway link in the description keeps converting for as long as the video is being recommended. The three-and-a-half-week window covers the period when a new upload gets most of its views, so the campaign closes while interest is still high rather than trailing off.
The guidebook adds a second loop. Entrants who open it are reading Blacktail Studio's own instructions for building the kind of table they just entered to win, which sends them back to the channel and its plans and courses.
Why This Strategy Works
The campaign aligns desire, distribution and product. The video creates desire for one specific table, the video's reach distributes the entry link at no extra cost, and the guidebook converts a giveaway entrant into someone holding a Blacktail Studio product. Each part reinforces the others, which is why a channel can run this format repeatedly and keep producing six-figure entry counts.
Key Takeaways
- Give away the thing you just made. A prize the audience watched being built is more desirable than anything with a higher sticker price.
- Reward every entrant with a digital product you already sell. It costs nothing to deliver and samples your catalog.
- Add runner-up tiers so the odds feel real: six winners, not one.
- Remove geographic doubt. "Shipped anywhere in the world" is a one-line change that unlocks international entries.
- Match the window to the content cycle. Three to four weeks covers a video's peak discovery without letting the campaign go stale.
Results
100K+ confirmed entries in 24 days. For scale, the channel's other large table giveaways on Blitz Rocket drew 82K+ (End Table, 2022) and 80K+ (Coffee Table, 2023), and the format has kept working: the Cascade Waterfall Table giveaway in autumn 2025 added another 34K+.
