OneAdventure is an Australian adventure brand that runs giveaways under the OneAdventure Competitions name. From May to August 2020 it ran a $1,000 Cash Gift Card Giveaway on win.oneadventure.com.au, inviting entrants to "get yourself some awesome goodies for your next adventure."
The giveaway ran from May 1 to August 31, 2020, with the winner notified by email on September 1. It drew 105,555 page views and 6,947 sign-ups, of which 4,307 confirmed their email. Alongside it, OneAdventure ran a monthly $150 BCF voucher giveaway on the same domain in May 2020.
Campaign Strategy
The approach was an always-on grand prize. A four-month window gave the campaign time to collect entrants steadily rather than in one burst, and a cash gift card suits anyone planning a trip, whatever gear they need. The page spelled out the process in five numbered steps: sign up, confirm your email to secure your entry, follow the steps on the thank-you page for bonus entries, check your email on September 1, and get started.
Confirming an email added 50 points. The bonus actions were all on Facebook:
- Page likes: like OneAdventure on Facebook (50 pts) and like CreditOne on Facebook (50 pts).
- Post engagement: like the giveaway post (50 pts), tag a friend on it (100 pts) and share it (200 pts).
- Content: send OneAdventure your adventure pic on Facebook (200 pts).
- Referrals: 250 points for every friend who entered.
The actions added up to 650 points. The two most valuable, sharing the post and sending a photo, were the ones that spread the giveaway or gave OneAdventure content it could use.
Viral Mechanics & Growth Engine
Referrals were the headline lever. At 250 points per friend, one referral was worth more than any single action and five times a page like, which pushed entrants toward sharing their link rather than stopping at the easy tasks.
On the action list, the OneAdventure page like was completed 1,336 times, followed by 806 likes for CreditOne, the second brand featured on the page, and 642 likes on the giveaway post. The sharing actions followed: 462 post shares and 339 tag-a-friend completions. Entrants also sent in 216 adventure photos. In total they completed 3,801 bonus actions. There were no milestone unlocks; the single gift card was the reward.
The CreditOne page like is worth noting. Giving CreditOne its own action delivered 806 page likes to the partner, a concrete return for its place on the page.
Results & Impact
- 6,947 sign-ups, of which 4,307 confirmed their email (62%).
- 105,555 page views over four months.
- 3,801 bonus actions, led by 1,336 OneAdventure page likes.
- 462 post shares, 339 tag-a-friend completions and 216 adventure photos.
- Two campaigns on the domain with 5,817 confirmed entrants and 136,182 page views between them.
The May 2020 BCF giveaway used the same structure with a smaller prize: a $150 BCF gift voucher, redeemable online or in-store, with the same six Facebook actions and BCF in the partner slot. It drew 2,466 sign-ups, 1,510 confirmed entrants and 1,457 bonus actions in one month.
Why This Strategy Works
A long-running cash prize removes most of the reasons not to enter. It suits every entrant regardless of what they want to buy, and a four-month window lets the campaign collect entrants steadily from every post, share and referral rather than depending on a single launch week. The clear five-step instructions and a fixed result date keep that long window from feeling vague.
The point values then steer behavior toward growth: referrals and shares pay the most, simple likes the least, and a partner slot adds value for a sponsor. For niche content brands, affiliate publishers and community sites that want a steady flow of email sign-ups without a big launch, this is the template worth copying.
Key Takeaways
- Run a long grand prize beside short monthly draws. The four-month gift card and the monthly BCF voucher ran on the same domain with the same mechanics.
- Pay the most for referrals. At 250 points, a referred friend outranked every other action.
- Give a partner brand its own action. CreditOne received 806 page likes from a single 50-point task.
- Tell entrants exactly when the result arrives. A stated September 1 notification date keeps a long campaign credible.
- Ask for content that fits the brand. 216 entrants sent in adventure photos, material an adventure brand can use.
Results reported by the campaign owner and verified against the campaign's own entry records. Figures reflect the campaign window shown above.
